Will we see an Arsenal team similar to the Invincibles next season?

Submitted by Duck on Mon, 05/12/2008 - 16:43.

This season we have done very well, despite what the press and doomsayers are saying how players leaving will weaken the team. Well, when Henry left they said we’ll finish outside the top 4 and probably just be a mid table team.

So, we have surpassed the initial expectation? And yet, they still pound Arsenal over and over again on other things. Stop believing everything that you read in the press. We all should be very proud of the club for its achievement and through this season we have found and finally blooded the youngsters.

Next season this crop of so called youngster will be “experienced youngsters” and with Wenger planning to bolster the squad with stronger, I mean more physical players and creative players we will be the team to beat next season. No doubt Man Utd will be up there as well as long as Ronaldo is still on form.

Young players as you say, but we’ve got the best wingbacks in Clichy(22) and Sagna(23); midfield maestro Fabregas(21) and Adebayor(24) who is the second highest goal scorer in the league. Then towards the end of the season we saw the fast up-rising star in Theo Walcott (19) whom I feel is a player who can personally change the game on his own. We need players like him. You may be reminded of Freddie Ljungberg who has done that for us while he was much faster and nippy.

I am not sure who will we buy, but right now it looks like we’ve already been in contact with Lyon for Hatem Ben Arfa who is a fast and creative winger.  After seeing his video clips, he do look a bit like the young Ronaldo when he first came to the EPL. Then we have another fast attacking winger in Carlos Vela who is due to come back on loan. Technically, a new signing for Arsenal because he was sent to Spain immediately.

In the years of the Invincibles, we relied a lot on our two good wingers (Pires and Ljungberg), a good striker in Henry and a maestro in Bergkamp. Comparing to our next season, Ben Arfa and Walcott could well be the Pires and Llungberg, Fabregas as Bergkamp and... well, Adebayor is no Henry, thats for sure. Then we have the two able wingbacks in Clichy and Sagna who is better than Cole and Lauren.

Next season looks like a good time for Arsenal to pick up some and I mean SOME silverwares. Plural.
